Boeing 737 Pilot Jobs 2026: 44 Airlines Flying the 737 and Who Is Hiring
The Boeing 737 flies with 44 of the 121 airlines on our jobs board, 28 of them with the 737 MAX in their fleet. At the last check 21 of them had the First Officer seat open, recruiting or holding a pool, and 31 publish a First Officer entry for pilots without a type rating. This page lists each one with that status, what it asks of the rating and its published minimum, then the First Officer and Captain routes that name the 737, and the traps in a 737 vacancy: hours counted on the type, a rating that has to be recent, and who pays for it. An open First Officer seat is not always a 737 seat: where the airline names a route on the type, we quote it as recorded.
Always confirm on the airline’s own careers page before applying. Every figure here is what the airline published at the date shown against it on our jobs board; entries marked Unconfirmed are ones whose requirements we found but whose current vacancy status we could not establish from the airline’s own pages. Vacancies open and close without notice.

The 737 MAX and the earlier 737s
The MAX (28): Air Canada, Air Europa, Air India (incl. Air India Express), Akasa Air, Alaska Airlines (incl. Hawaiian), Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Arajet, Copa Airlines, Enter Air, Ethiopian Airlines, flydubai, GOL Linhas Aéreas, Icelandair, Korean Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Malaysia Airlines (MAG), Norwegian, Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc, Ryanair Group, Singapore Airlines, Smartwings, Southwest Airlines, SunExpress, TUI Airline (TUI Airways, TUI fly), Virgin Australia and WestJet. Earlier 737s only (10): Atlas Air, EgyptAir, Greater Bay Airlines, Japan Airlines, Jet2.com, Kenya Airways, Pegasus Airlines, Qantas Group (Qantas & QantasLink), Sun Country Airlines and Transavia, whose records list the 737-300 to -900 (the Classic and NG models) or a 737 freighter and no MAX; Greater Bay Airlines had the MAX on order at its last check, on 21 September 2026. Models not named (6): China Southern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM, Luxair, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines, whose records name the 737 without its models, so check their own fleet pages. Left out until its 737s fly: Vueling, whose record lists the 50 Boeing 737s that IAG has allocated to it, the first three due in the fourth quarter of 2026 (checked 12 October 2026).
For the type rating, the model makes little difference. Under the FAA every 737, from the first 737-100 to the MAX, carries one pilot type rating, B-737 (the FAA’s Flight Standardization Board report: Revision 17 of November 2020, and the draft of Revision 22, which lists the 737-7, -8, -8200, -9 and -10). An NG pilot becomes MAX-qualified through differences training and, since Revision 17, the special MAX training that the report requires before the first MAX flight. EASA’s type certificate data sheet (IM.A.120, Issue 29 of 16 December 2025) gives the pilot type rating B737-300-900 for the 737-300 to -900ER and, for the MAX, refers to Boeing’s flight crew data without printing a designation, so ask your licensing authority how a MAX qualification is endorsed. The 737 NG to MAX differences course sets out what changes. What can differ from one airline to the next is how your 737 hours are counted: see the last section.
Do you need a 737 type rating?
Whether you need the rating to apply is the airline’s call, and it splits the list four ways:
- No type rating needed to apply (20): Air Canada, Alaska Airlines (incl. Hawaiian), Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Arajet, Atlas Air, Copa Airlines, Delta Air Lines, EgyptAir, Enter Air, Ethiopian Airlines, GOL Linhas Aéreas, Icelandair, LOT Polish Airlines, Qantas Group (Qantas & QantasLink), Southwest Airlines, Transavia, United Airlines, Virgin Australia and WestJet. The airline provides, arranges or sells the rating, or only prefers it; a multi-fleet airline may still put you on another type.
- Separate rated and non-rated streams (11): Air India (incl. Air India Express), Akasa Air, flydubai, Japan Airlines, Jet2.com, Norwegian, Pegasus Airlines, Ryanair Group, Smartwings, SunExpress and TUI Airline (TUI Airways, TUI fly). The streams open and close separately, and the rated one usually asks for hours on the type. Air India’s rated postings want the 737 or A320 rating, and its Trainee Pilot Programme takes DGCA CPL holders onto the 737 fleet with a multi-engine and instrument rating instead of the 737 endorsement, though no window was open at the last check.
- A type rating needed to apply (6): Air Europa, Greater Bay Airlines, KLM, Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc and Singapore Airlines. Not always on the 737: KLM asks for a valid rating on any multi-pilot type, then trains you on whichever of its fleets has training capacity; Singapore Airlines’ direct entry asks for an A350 or A380 rating.
- Not published or unclear (7): China Southern Airlines, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, Luxair, Malaysia Airlines (MAG), Sun Country Airlines and Turkish Airlines. This includes airlines with no First Officer entry outside a cadet scheme.
The non-rated doors at low hours are on the low-hour pilot jobs page, the airlines that train you on type, on the 737 or another aircraft, on the non-type-rated First Officer jobs page, and the routes from zero on the cadet programs page.
How to read a 737 vacancy
- Flying the 737 is not hiring for it. A multi-fleet airline decides where you go: KLM sends direct-entry pilots to whichever fleet has training capacity, and says there is no choice in this; Air Canada assigns the fleet; Delta trains you on its fleet type; Singapore Airlines places its direct-entry pilots on the A350 or A380 fleet, while its 737s are the former SilkAir aircraft; Air India’s 737s fly with Air India Express. The tables show each airline’s First Officer seat; the routes section shows where the record names the 737.
- Rated means recent, with hours on the type. flydubai’s rated First Officers need 500 hours on the 737, with the type endorsed in the last 24 months; Ryanair reclassifies a 737-rated pilot as non-rated, with a full transition course, below 800 hours on type and 1,000 on CS-25 aircraft, or after 36 months off the aircraft; Norwegian’s rated route asked for 500 hours on the 737, with the rating on an EASA license now or in the past; Air Europa’s last rated call asked for 500 hours on the 737; Royal Air Maroc’s rated First Officers need 300 hours on the 737NG or MAX; Air India Express’s rated First Officers need 100 hours of airline flying on the 737 after line release. A rating you hold without recent flying on the type may not get you into a rated stream.
- Hours on which 737? Some adverts name the models: flydubai’s rated advert, as our record has it, counts its 500 hours on the 737-300 to -900, the Classic and NG models, so check how it treats hours on the MAX; Ryanair’s rated Buzz First Officer advert, seen in September 2026, asked for 800 hours on the 737-300 to -900. If your 737 time is on the MAX, ask how it counts before you apply.
- Provided is not always free. flydubai’s training bond reduces over 36 months from USD 36,000 for a non-rated joiner, or USD 24,000 if rated; Ryanair’s cadet type-rating programs are self-sponsored, or, for the UK intake with Ryanair DAC, partly sponsored with EUR 5,000 paid up front; Enter Air trains the rating in Warsaw under a training agreement whose cost and bond are not published; Smartwings trains its non-rated First Officers on the 737NG without publishing the cost or bond; Norwegian’s non-rated vacancy did not say who funds the 737 rating or whether a bond applies; Akasa Air arranges the rating, and its funding terms are among the points we could not confirm. Ask who pays and what the bond is before you sign.
- Hours with a qualifier. LOT’s 737 First Officers need 800 hours, 500 of them on aircraft over 40 tonnes; Ryanair’s non-rated experienced First Officers need 500 hours as First Officer on a multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft in commercial air transport, and instructing hours do not count; Jet2’s First Officers need 500 hours on multi-crew jets or turboprops above 10 tonnes; TUI’s 2026 non-rated UK vacancy asked for 500 hours or 100 route sectors on a multi-pilot turbojet or a qualifying turboprop; flydubai’s non-rated First Officers, as job boards relay the advert, need 2,500 hours, 1,000 of them on EFIS multi-crew aircraft above 10 tonnes; Southwest’s 2026 posting asked for 2,500 hours in total, or 1,500 in turbine aircraft. Total time on light single-pilot aircraft does not meet a multi-crew or a 10-tonne figure. Every airline’s minimum is on the hours requirements page.
- License and passport first. The 8 US airlines here want an FAA ATP, or the experience and written exam for one, and 7 of them the right to work in the US; Air Canada and WestJet ask for Canadian citizenship or permanent residence; Virgin Australia for Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residence; Air India for Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India; EgyptAir’s First Officer intake is for Egyptian nationals; Kenya Airways’ for Kenyan citizens. Of the 44 airlines on this page, flydubai, Greater Bay Airlines, Japan Airlines, Jet2.com and Oman Air say they sponsor a visa for at least one pilot entry; the airlines that do, on every type, are on the visa sponsorship page. The regional pages set out the license rules: Europe, North America, Middle East, Asia-Pacific.

Which airlines are hiring 737 pilots? 21 of the 44 airlines on our board that fly the 737 had their First Officer seat open, recruiting or holding a pool, at the last check; the table “First Officer seat open” on this page lists them, each with the date it was checked. That is the airline’s First Officer seat, not always a vacancy on the 737, because multi-fleet airlines assign the fleet. Check each airline’s current status on the jobs board before applying.
Can I get a 737 job without a type rating? Yes. 31 of the 44 airlines publish a First Officer entry for pilots without a type rating, 11 of them alongside a separate rated stream; 6 want a rating held when you apply, not always on the 737, and for 7 it is not published or unclear. Where the airline provides the rating, ask who pays for it, whether it is bonded and which fleet you will fly.
How many hours do I need for a 737 First Officer job? There is no single figure. The lowest published First or Second Officer entry points for pilots without a type rating among these airlines, each in the airline’s own measure of hours and not always on the 737: Smartwings (70 h); Ryanair Group (100 h); Jet2.com (100 h); Akasa Air (200 h); Enter Air (200 h); Qantas Group (500 h). In the United States the floor is the FAA ATP, at 1,500 hours or the restricted ATP’s lower minimums, and rated streams often count hours on the 737 itself as well as total time.
Which airlines fly the 737 MAX? 28 of the 44 airlines on our board that fly the 737 list the MAX in their records: Air Canada, Air Europa, Air India, Akasa Air, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Arajet, Copa Airlines, Enter Air, Ethiopian Airlines, flydubai, GOL Linhas Aéreas, Icelandair, Korean Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Norwegian, Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc, Ryanair Group, Singapore Airlines, Smartwings, Southwest Airlines, SunExpress, TUI Airline, Virgin Australia and WestJet. 6 more name the 737 without its models, so check their own fleet pages.
Is the 737 MAX the same type rating as the 737 NG? Under the FAA, yes: every 737, from the 737-100 to the MAX, carries the single type rating B-737, and an NG pilot becomes MAX-qualified through differences training and the special training the FAA’s Flight Standardization Board report requires before the first MAX flight. EASA’s type certificate data sheet gives the pilot type rating B737-300-900 for the 737-300 to -900ER and prints no designation for the MAX; ask your licensing authority how a MAX qualification is endorsed on your license.
Which airlines hire 737 Captains from outside? 8 of the 44 airlines on this page name a Captain route on the 737 in their records, with the Captain seat at the last check in brackets: Air India (recruiting); Arajet (recruiting); Ethiopian Airlines (recruiting); flydubai (recruiting); Oman Air (recruiting); Royal Air Maroc (recruiting); Ryanair Group (recruiting); Smartwings (recruiting). 18 of the 44 publish no Captain route for pilots from outside and make their Captains from their own First Officers; the direct entry Captain jobs page lists every airline that takes them from outside.
